The speculation about the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The mystery is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words suggests that the team could be building a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. For now, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it pioneered the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, player agency, and flexible progression—qualities that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve if you're playing as a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also wonderfully open-ended, letting players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Most missions can be solved in a variety of manners, frequently in surprising fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.
More to Come
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can look forward to another adventure in this legendary franchise.
