PSG Edges Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match between the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying moments to send the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
