Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then located multiple other smeared vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests suggest the fluid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; officials are currently not aware of any physical harm in association with the incident," they added.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have asked to the residents for information.
A high-ranking representative commented the attack rendered him speechless and had to be resolved quickly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, referring to the death of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
